Story
The player takes on the role of Sergeant First Class Steve R. Hawkins; born 13th October 1939, in Wilmington, North Carolina, who has been assigned to the United States Special Forces camp at Nui Pek, during the Vietnam War. He and his team carry out dangerous missions in South-Vietnam and Cambodia. His team is composed of 5 men: Le Duy Nhut, a LLDB guide; Joe Crocker, a medic; Bronson, demolition specialist; Defort, the radioman; and Hornster, the team's machine gunner
Expansions and console version
In addition to the original game, expansion pack Vietcong: Fist Alpha was released in February 2004, with some new features, and was bundled with Vietcong as Vietcong: Purple Haze for the PC. Vietcong: Purple Haze, was also released in October that year as an expanded version for PlayStation 2 and Xbox developed by Coyote Games. There was also an official add-on released called Red Dawn for free to download off the internet
Vehicles
Although only one vehicle in the games can be personally controlled by the player on a certain map (M151 MUTT), other different vehicles have a role in the games, as either parts of the game or present in cutscenes

The PC version of the game received generally favorable reviews garnering a 77/100 score on the review aggregation site Metacritic.[2] The Xbox and PS2 versions of the game were not as well-received with the Xbox port scoring 57/100 and the PS2 scoring a 48/100 on Metacritic
